‘The bird that consumes the miro berry, owns the forest. However, the bird that consumes learning, owns the world.
Ko te manu e kai ana i te miro, nōna te ngahere.
Engari, ko te manu e kai ana i te mātauranga, nōna te ao.’
Southern Adult Literacy Inc
‘To provide comprehensive adult learning services to the people of the southern region, both urban and rural, that meet the needs of the adults in the community who seek basic learning assistance to achieve independence’
Scheme Philosophy (Kaupapa)
Southern Adult Literacy believes that adults, who wish to improve their basic literacy skills, should be encouraged to do so in an environment that encourages and supports.
This is done by working in a student centered manner where the student is encouraged to set and meet their own goals toward being more independent and more able to meet the everyday literacy challenges that they confront.
We work in a partnership that respects each others different cultural and personal values.
