Southern Adult Literacy’s Current Courses

Computing For Your Future

An intensive 5 week course where aspects of computer competence both for work and home will be tutored. From spread sheets to birthday cards. Basic computer competency is a prerequisite.

4 days a week 9:30am – 2:45pm

1:1 Confidential Tuition

To help improve reading writing and spelling to achieve increased independence. Appropriate learning material and based on personal goals at a time suitable to all.

Learner Driver Licence Theory

It’s free and covers class 1. Small group but work at your own pace. 10 Week block sessions available. Come in and practice on the computer before sitting the test. Resources avaliable. You do have to pay to sit your licence.

Wednesdays 9:30am-11am

Workplace Literacy

For those who are employed. Are you struggling with the paperwork? 1:1 or small group help is available. Learn to use the documents that are relevant to you.

Home Based Learning Options

Get ahead to NCEA level 2

Do you want to gain NCEA or are you a few credits short? Don’t be held back. We offer a full range of options to achieve NCEA from your starting point. If you have 50 credits or more there is Top Up to NCEA which allows you to do just the credits that you need.

Beginning Computing

New to computers? This is for you.

Learn from the start. Two 1.5 hr sessions a week for 4 weeks. 4-6 in a group.

Preparing For or Returning to or the Workforce

Are you looking for:

  • A change of focus in your life, perhaps a new direction?
  • A boost for your self-confidence?
  • An opportunity to grow your personal skills?
  • Updated or enhanced work skills?

The learning is offered in the context of everyday life situations, e.g. Work related contexts, home and social. We also use small groups, only 8-10 participants.
We use adult appropriate resources and participants have an involvement in planning so the learning is relevant.
Get an up to date C.V. that is about you.
So, come and join us in a small, people centered group and gain some self-determination over your life. After course support and follow up provided to students to pursue goals.
